News about Portugal, focusing in Sagres, the Vincentine Coast and Barlavento (windward) - the Western stretch of Algarve - a land packed with history, legend, crystal blue Atlantic waters, sunny beaches and fishermen, farmers, tradesmen and holidaymakers. As seen by a Sagres addict! Sagres is the most southwestern town in Continental Europe and the legend of St. Vincent reads that the body of martyr Vincent - a man who underwent the death penalty by the Romans for pursuing the Christian faith - was dropped into the sea, having come ashore at the Promontorium Sacrum (Sacred Cape), where it was guarded by local black crows until it was recovered by Christians and taken to Lisbon in 1173, to be honoured in St. Vincent's Church, built by order of Henry, the first king of Portugal after his conquest of the city from the moors, with the help of a passing fleet of crusaders on their way to the Holy Land. That's why the Lisbon Court of Arms today is still oulined by a black sailing ship with two crows.
